THE SCIENTIST BEHIND SENTIA
Dave is a world-leading neuropsychopharmacologist who has spent over 40 years researching how drugs, including alcohol, affect the brain. He has published 500+ peer-reviewed scientific papers, authored 30+ books, and founded Drug Science, an independent charity dedicated to evidence-based information on drugs and their effects.
His starting point for SENTIA was simple: if alcohol causes so much harm, why do people still drink it?
The answer is that most people drink alcohol because it helps them relax, feel socially at ease and connect with others. Abstinence works for some people, but Dave believed there should be another option: an alternative designed around the positive social effects people seek from alcohol, without the ethanol or intoxication.
That’s why Dave created SENTIA: a drink built around the brain’s GABA system, the key pathway involved in calm, relaxation and reduced inhibition in social settings.
